A treasure hunt is an interactive guided tour in which children, through the use of educational material, such as specially created maps, are invited to explore a part of the city or its museums. The activities are fun and stimulating, but not competitive. Children are given small riddles or details to recognize, in order to keep their attention high along the predetermined itinerary. In the end, children always receive a highly expected final "treasure".
Each activity has been designed to be child-oriented more than simply child-friendly. My favorite interlocutors in the visit are the children. However, it isn’t just about games or riddles: my visits are rich of information, so parents will also learn, mostly inductively. Moreover, I will always make sure to have time to dedicate to questions and for conversations with adults.
The secret itineraries in the Doge's Palace are a special tour that allows to see a part of the palace that is not visible in the ordinary path. You have access to the ancient prisons of the Pozzi and Piombi, the rooms of the Chancellery, and the torture room. Attention: the secret itineraries service must necessarily be booked in advance! It is possible to book it only from the age of 6. It is also suitable for an age between 11 and 16 years.
Each season has its own charm! However, consider that winter can be quite cold, and not suitable for long walks outdoors. Autumn is quite rainy, and this too can be an impediment to outdoor activities. Spring and summer are the most fitting seasons, and obviously those in which the city is more crowded. Ask your guide for advice to book the activities in a strategic way, to avoid the hottest hours of the day and the long queues at museums
In Venice, very high tides can occur, which cause the city to partially flood. If you travel in autumn (between October and December) you can check the tide situation by consulting the official on the topic (https://www.comune.venezia.it/it/content/centro-previsioni-e- reports-tides). The yellow and orange code tides can be a partial obstacle for visiting the monumental complexes of San Marco and Rialto. It will be advisable to bring a pair of rubber boots and walk on the walkways. The red code tide corresponds to an exceptional one and usually it becomes very difficult to get around for some hours, either on foot or by boat. In case of high water, I will be happy to advise you and possibly change programs and schedules to make your visit feasible and pleasant. From 2020, the MOSE project has started supporting the citizens to face with the floods: when activated, it stops or reduces the floods.
In Venice you can move easily on foot. If you plan to reach the meeting point of the tour walking, consider the distances well and calculate the timing so as not to arrive late (remember that the guide is time service!). A good advice is to use the vaporetto (cheaper) or the taxi (more expensive) to reach the meeting point if you are staying very far: in this way your children will have more energy for the special guided tour you have booked for them!
Visiting Murano and Burano will be exciting with your children! But pay attention to a couple of considerations: for an excursion to these two islands you might need the whole day; the islands have a strong commercial appeal, to be considered when traveling with children.
In addition to the unmissable visits of the Doge's Palace and Basilica of San Marco, and to an adventurous treasure hunt in search of the most intriguing details of the city, I recommend climbing the Scala del Bovolo, doing a mask decoration workshop, going for a gondola ride and visiting a glass factory.
It is possible that the guide meets you at the hotel, according to availability. However, most of the itineraries are already structured with a starting point that facilitates the development of the visit. When confirming your booking, you will receive a voucher which clearly indicates where to preferably meet your guide.
Of course, during the booking phase you can customize the guided tour in order to satisfy all family members and expectations. You can add or change a stop of the route if you wish, or plan a break in a special place.
