Interactive family activity to discover St. Mark’s Square and Rialto

How it works: This scavenger hunt will enable young and adults to explore some of the most relevant historical sights in Venice. Through the use of a special map, children will need to find hidden details, and in the end they will get a nice Venetian prize!
The starting point is Piazza San Marco, the magnificent ancient seat of power, and the end is at the Rialto, the old commercial center. The walk occurs all outdoors and is useful to get to learn about the figure of the Doges, the story of St. Mark the Evangelist, the importance of trade in the old medieval city.

The tour includes:

  • St. Mark’s Square with the Doge’s Palace, the Basilica of St. Mark, the bell tower, the clock tower, the Bridge of Sighs;
  • The houses of Marco Polo
  • The Rialto bridge and the Grand Canal

What kids will love: a colorful map specifically designed for children; finding winged lions, the ever-present symbol of Venice; see the Bridge of Sights; learning about Marco Polo; the view of the Grand Canal!

What adults will love: the detailed explanation of Piazza San Marco, of the mercantile history of Venice and in particular of the figure of Marco Polo; to know about Venice’s urban structure; to appreciate in detail the architecture of the most important sights.
